Addiction Intervention in St. Louis
When someone you love is struggling with addiction and won't seek help on their own, a structured approach can make the difference. But intervention doesn't always mean confrontation — and we help families figure out what approach is most likely to work.
Not Every Intervention Looks Like the TV Show
The word 'intervention' conjures a specific image — family members assembled in a room, a professional facilitating an emotional confrontation, an ultimatum. That model has its place, and sometimes it's what's needed. But it's not the only path, and for many families it's not the right one.
In our experience, a lot of families are closer to a productive conversation than they realize. Sometimes the most effective thing we can do is help a family member understand how to have a different kind of conversation — one that opens a door rather than backs someone into a corner.
We work across the full spectrum: from coaching a single family member on how to approach a difficult conversation, to facilitating a structured family meeting, to supporting a more formal intervention process when the situation calls for it. The goal is always the same — getting your loved one into treatment — and we'll help you find the approach most likely to work for your specific family and situation.
How We Help
Family Consultation
A starting point for most families. We help you understand what you're dealing with, what's likely to be effective, and what tends to backfire. Many families leave with a clearer sense of what to do next — sometimes that's enough.
Family Coaching
Guidance on how to have productive conversations with a loved one who isn't ready for help. What to say, what to avoid, how to set limits without issuing ultimatums that won't hold — practical guidance tailored to your situation.
Facilitated Family Meeting
A structured conversation with family members present, facilitated by a clinician. Less formal than a traditional intervention, but more supported than going it alone.
Formal Intervention Support
When a more structured, traditional intervention is the right approach, we can help plan and facilitate it. We work with families to prepare, anticipate what might happen, and have a treatment plan ready to act on.
What to Expect
We typically start with a consultation — a conversation with concerned family members to understand the situation, the relationship dynamics, and what's already been tried. From there we'll help you think through what approach makes sense.
If your loved one does agree to treatment, we’ll have options ready for you — residential treatment programs that we recommend or our own outpatient treatment staff to get your loved one engaged right away. We will help you and your loved one decide the right level of care.
